Coating Process

The heart and soul of our manufacturing business is our custom-built 3-stage coating line. Our founder, Jan Niblett, and his father Ray Niblett are pioneers of the coil coating industry on the west coast. In his career, Ray built over a dozen coating lines for companies worldwide. With nearly 100 years of coil coating knowledge at our disposal, we have designed a coating process that performs well above the industry averages.

Step 1: Bare Metal

We purchase bare metal directly from US-based aluminum mills only. We do not purchase from metal brokers. This means we get exactly the material we need for our specific needs.

Step 2: Pre-Treatment

When the metal is received from the mill, it is covered with a thin layer of oil, which must be removed before coating, or the paint will not stick to the metal. To achieve this we employ a complicated chemical treatment process.

Step 3: Primer

We use only the highest quality oil based primers in our coating process.

Step 4: Top Coat

Our topcoat is a high solids enamel-based tough coat. The paint itself is so dense that it will never completely dry naturally, and must be passed through a series of ovens at nearly 1000 degrees to achieve the desired finish.

The finished product is a perfectly glossed painted coil that carries a 20 Year Limited Warranty against any defect or premature failure.

All of our coated products feature the exclusive Super Series 1000 Surface Protectant, which endows our materials with higher surface integrity, lower coefficient of friction, and an overall superior finish than any of our competition.

What’s Next?

Now we take the painted coil and slit it to various sizes which are then sent to our over 30 roll formers and punch press to make the components of our Lusterwood Open Lattice and Solid CoversTraditional CoversWindow Awnings, etc…
